After ranking number 1 in India and 239 in THE world rankings, Panjab University, has 140 international students studying this year 2013.
"As many as 140 international students from 17 countries have opted for Panjab University in the 2013-14 session. We expect more international students to come in the next session, as many NRI students are also expected," said Vineet Punia, public relations director of the university.
The international students are mostly from Iran, Afghanistan, Maldives, Iraq, Thailand, Ethiopia, Nepal, Vietnam, Singapore, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Germany, the UK and the US. Of these, 65 of them are female students.
Around 63 international students pursuing Ph.D in departments of Anthropology, Botany, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Chinese and Tibetan, Computer Science & Application, Communication Studies, Law, Economics, Education, English and Cultural Studies, History, Indian Theatre, Microbiology, Public Administration, Physics, Philosophy, Physical Education, and Psychology.
Around 22 international students joined BDS course in Dr HSJ Institute of Dental Sciences.
While 18 students are pursuing B.A and Law from University Institute of Legal Studies, 27 students are pursuing PG courses.
