IBM today announced Shared University Research (SUR) awards 2013 for different projects related to Analytics and Cloud in collaboration with leading educational institutes in the country - IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, Anna University, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, (VNIT) Nagpur, Cummins College of Engineering for Women and IIM Udaipur.
The IBM Shared University Research (SUR) Awards is a worldwide equipment award programme designed to promote research in areas of mutual value and interest to IBM and universities.
Nominations for these awards must be initiated by someone within IBM.
The award will result in technical collaboration between the institutes and relevant IBM experts and also provide access to IBM software required for the successful completion of the projects, said a source.
IBM has a strong tradition of research collaboration with academia. It goes beyond the boundaries of IBM labs to work with colleagues in universities around the world to address global grand challenge problems.
It also fosters collaborative research related to transformation and innovation of businesses and governments, relationships through fellowships, grants, and funding for programmes of shared interest.
About the programme:
The SUR Awards programme strives to connect the research and researchers at universities with personnel in IBM: in organisations such as IBM Research, IBM Life Sciences, IBM Global Services and our development and product labs.
This programme is not aimed at supporting a single individual or research project. Rather, the intent is to support and have an impact in an area of significant interest to the university and IBM.
The SUR Awards programme is designed to:
- Promote collaborative research projects that bring value to IBM, the technology community, and our world.
- Increase access to IBM technologies for research and in curriculum.
- Provide opportunities within IBM for undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students.
