The IBM Shared University Research (SUR) Awards is a worldwide equipment award programme designed to promote research in areas of mutual value and interest to IBM and universities.

Nominations for these awards must be initiated by someone within IBM.

The award will result in technical collaboration between the institutes and relevant IBM experts and also provide access to IBM software required for the successful completion of the projects, said a source.

IBM has a strong tradition of research collaboration with academia. It goes beyond the boundaries of IBM labs to work with colleagues in universities around the world to address global grand challenge problems.

It also fosters collaborative research related to transformation and innovation of businesses and governments, relationships through fellowships, grants, and funding for programmes of shared interest.
