The adult education system refers to programs across the U.S. that offer instruction including basic literacy and numeracy, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), high school diploma equivalency, and college and career readiness. Enrollment in adult education have skyrocketed across the nation in recent years as adults have been laid off and unable to find new jobs. In addition, every year, over one million youth drop out of school. When they decide to complete their education, they enroll in adult education. A rapidly growing population of English language learners also participates in adult education programs.
