On Thursday, the academic council decided to de-affiliate Arts, Science and Commerce College in Vikramgad, Thane, for mocking the norms under Section 81 of Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994.
According to source, this college, which is running since more than a decade, does not have teachers on board. Moreover, the college management has failed to hire a principal and the building stand on disputed land. On the extreme note, the college lacked basic facilities like infrastructure, drinking water and toilets.
The decision was taken after a committee visited the college for inspection and submitted its report to the council on Thursday. With this, all member of the council has agreed to take immediate action against the college.
The committee that visited the college after it sought permanent affiliation, had recommended that its affiliation be discontinued, as it failed to provide basic facilities to students which is one of the important factors for every educational institutions.
However, in favour to students, Pro-vice-chancellor Naresh Chandra said students will not be hit and the university will ensure students are accommodated in nearby colleges for the next academic session.
