Meghalaya to boycott Teacher's Day
Over 15,000 teachers in Meghalaya have decided to boycott Teacher's Day celebration tomorrow even as a sit-in demonstration was observed today in all 11 district headquarters and 23 zones intensifying their demands to provincialise all government-aided schools in the state.

The teachers under the banner of Joint Action Committee of All Teacher Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) which observed the sit-in demonstration in the state capital, Nongstoin, Mawkyrwat, Jowai and all other places received full attendance from all member schools, JACATAM chairman E D Nongsiang, told PTI from Mawkyrwat.

Over 4047 schools under ad-hoc and deficit pattern of the state government were virtually closed for the past three days affecting over 20,000 students.

Hundred of teachers from Garo Hills region have joined the rest of the teachers at a dharna at the Students' Field in the state capital and for the rally tomorrow.

The JACATAM has also announced its decision to boycott Teachers' day celebration by holding a protest rally in Shillong tomorrow.

Among other issues demanded by the government-aided school teachers were: provincialisation of their services, implementation of the education policy, uniform salary for same jobs besides others.
