Jaya extends Teacher's day greetings
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today extended her Teacher's Day greetings, expressing her desire that they should create a knowledge based society for the benefit of the country.

"Teaching job involves inculcating discipline, instilling self-confidence, determination and general knowledge in students. I wish that the teachers who do this special job create a knowledge-based society that will bring laurels to the country," she said in her Teachers' Day greetings.

She said her government had filled up over 51,000 teacher vacancies in the last two years besides taking up infrastructure work for schools at an estimated Rs 1660 crore.

Jayalalithaa recalled that the birthday of former President S Radhakrishnan, a teacher himself, was being celebrated as Teachers' Day.

DMK president M Karunanidhi also extended his greetings, recalling the various benefits he had given to the teaching community while heading DMK governments at different points of time.
