Government school students take on role of Principal, teachers

By

In an innovative way of celebrating Teachers day, students of a local school today took over all its duties, from peon to Principal, to get a first-hand feel of managing an institute.

The senior secondary school for girls has 957 students and some of them managed school affairs from 8 AM till its closing time at 2 PM.

However, their teachers and Principal were around to supervise. A Plus II Commerce student, Renu, took on the role of Principal, as the real head of the school, Nirmal Singh, kept a watch.

She said, "As a student, I thought Principal's job was just to sit leisurely and give orders to subordinates and students. But today I realised how difficult the job is. I have to take a round of entire campus and inspect teachers to ensure that everything is going on smoothly and with discipline. Principal's job is both exciting and demanding."

"We have also learnt how much our teachers do for moulding us," she said. Narinder Kaur, another Plus II Commerce student, was performing as a lecturer in place of Suresh Gupta.

"I enjoy my new avtar but one has to prepare much to teach a class," she said. School Principal Nirmal Singh, pleased with the unique experiment, said, "Students performed better than us!"
