TN to set up five more ITI Institutes
With more candidates seeking admission to state-run Industrial Training Institutes, Tamil Nadu government today proposed starting five such institutes at an estimated Rs 26.39 crore.

As many as 62 government ITIs were functioning in the state with a sanctioned strength of 28,594 seats and there has been an increase in demand for admissions, an official release said.

With the need to address the demand for skilled persons, and allow more students join ITI courses, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has approved five new institutes at Tuticorin, Theni, Tanjavur, Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram districts, it said.

She has alloted Rs 26.39 crore for this purpose and these ITIs will function in the 2013-14 academic year, it added.

In a separate release, the government said Jayalalithaa has approved increasing the annual financial assistance to families of deceased pensioners.

The sum, granted to families of deceased pensioners, has been increased from Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000.
