Justifying the promotion, Parrikar said that the extension received the cabinet's approval as there are no officers that can be promoted to the position.
"The directorate of education requires several structural changes. There are eight to ten deputy directors who are on ad-hoc basis and some others are due to retire. The DoE's structure has to be put in place. So Powar had to be given extension for now," Parrikar said.
Powar was promoted to the post of additional director of education after the Parrikar government came to power last year. Around a month ago, Powar was elevated to the position of director of education, with only a few weeks to go for his retirement.
