PG Admissions at Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University

The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai invites applications for admission to the Postgraduate degree / Diploma programmes offered by the University during the academic year 2013-14.


  • A candidate who has been selected for admission to M.V.Sc. / M.Tech/M.B.A. / M.Sc./M. Phil. / Ph.D. / PG Diploma programmes should register for the course concerned within 13 working days from the date of commencement of registration (the first two working days without fine and the remaining eleven working days with a fine of Rs.100/-) as per the provisions made in the Regulations for the Postgraduate degree programme under semester pattern. If he/she does not register for the course within the above period, his/her admission will automatically stand cancelled.
  • A candidate who has paid the fees but fails to register on the date specified or fails to inform his/her intention of not registering for the course, within one week from the date specified for registration, is liable to for-feit the fees paid by him/her.
  • A candidate who intends to withdraw from the course before registration is entitled to get a refund of 80% of the tuition fees and 100% of all the other fees paid by him/her, provided the claim for refund is made within one month from the date notified for registration / commencement of classes. Otherwise, he/she is liable to forfeit the full fees paid for the admission.
  • A student who desires to leave the course after registering for the course irrespective of the fact that he/she has attended the classes or not is entitled to get a refund of 30% of the tuition fees and 50% of all the other fees.

TANUVAS, Chennai, Tamil Nadu

The Madras Veterinary College was started as an Agricultural School in Chennai to offer diploma and certificate course in the field of veterinary and animal sciences.

Realizing the importance of education research in animal and fisheries sciences so as to increase its productivity towards better income generation for the resource poor farmers, the government of Tamilnadu established the first veterinary and animal sciences university in Asia on 20th September 1989 with its head quarters at Chennai with the name Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (popularly abbreviated as TANUVAS).

Two more veterinary colleges, one at Tirunelveli and another at Orathandu in Thanjavur district were started in the year 2012 - 13.

College of Food and Dairy Technology

The Institute of Food and Dairy Technology, Koduvalli, Chennai which was established in the year 1993 was upgraded as College of Food and Dairy Technology (CFDT) on 10.04.2012.

Constituent college of this university

The Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukkudi was also made as another constituent college of this university. The mandates of the University are to impart education, to ensure advancement of learning and prosecution of research and to undertake extension to rural people in cooperation with the government departments in different branches of veterinary and animal sciences.


The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has been conferred with the prestigious "Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award-2011", recognizing its meritorious performance in education, research and extension in the country in the field of agricultural sciences including veterinary, animal and fisheries sciences at the 84th Foundation Day of the ICAR and ICAR Award Ceremony held at New Delhi on 16.07.2012 among 63 agricultural and veterinary universities. TANUVAS is the first veterinary university in the country to bag this coveted award.

College of Poultry Production and Management

The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is establishing World-Class College of Poultry production and Management at Hosur in Krishnagiri District of Tamil Nadu.

College of Food and Dairy Technology

Realizing the importance of Food Processing and need for value addition and to cater the education, research and extension needs of this sector, TANUVAS established, the Institute of Food and Dairy Technology in the year 1992.

Postgraduate degree / Diploma programmes

TANVASU, Chennai offers courses in Postgraduate degree / Diploma programmes. Applications are invited for the academic year 201-14.
