'Golden Peacock Award' yet again for Manipal University, Manipal

Manipal University, Manipal has for the second consecutive year bagged the Golden Peacock Environment Management Award, 2013.

The University's green initiative was also recognized by the UI Green Metric World Universities' Ranking 2011 and was ranked 78th among the 178 universities that were ranked.

Golden Peacock for Environment Management was instituted by World Environment Foundation in 1998 and is presented to organizations that have attained significant achievements in the field.

The Award's jury under the chairmanship of Justice P. N. Bhagwathi, former Chief Justice of India and Member, UN Human Rights commission adjudged Manipal University the best and the award was presented at the 15th World Congress on Environment Management in New Delhi on July 19, 2013.

The award was received by the Director, Quality and Compliance, Dr PLNG Rao, along with Director, General Services and Purchase, Col. Badri Narayanan and Environment Executive Derrick Ian Joshua received the award on behalf of the University from Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Union Cabinet Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas.

"This achievement is testimony to the eco-consciousness of the University and a recognition of the success achieved in managing environmental concerns," said Dr PLNG Rao.

He added; "Our commitment to ecological sustainability is evident from the awards we are winning and with each passing year we are improving on energy and water conservation and waste recycling".
