The research output of many educational institutions is steadily growing - as indicated in the recently-released report of Scopus, an abstracting and indexing database that includes over 19,000 titles from more than 5,000 international publishers.
Manipal University emerged top 1 in research category, among the non-government universities in India by a Scopus-based study.
The total number of research works by Manipal University is 2,762. Vellore Institute of Technology with 1,183 research works stood second in this ranking category and Birla Institute of Technology was ranked third with 911 research works.
There are 128 institutions from India, listed among the 3,290 world institutions. The list includes the government organizations, higher education institutions, health institutions, private institutions and other institutions. Manipal University is ranked 19 thoverall in India, 271 in Asia region and globally ranked 1,118 in research works category.
In 2010, Manipal University was ranked 55 thin India in the SIR Global Ranking and 425 thin Asia. While in 2012 SIR global ranking, there has been a marked improvement by Manipal University was ranked 19 thin the country, 271 in Asia and 1,118 globally.
While IISc has published 31,712 research papers in the past four years, IIT- Madras has published 7,534, the VIT, 2, 902, SASTRA, 1,570 and SRM, 1,211, according to data provided by Scopus Research.
