Karnataka government has requested the HRD ministry to postpone NEET UG 2013 exam, as the state undergoes polls on the same day.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi is conducting NEET UG on May 5.
The state has seven centres, wherein some 40,000 students will take the test. Around 15,000 staff and others will be on exam duty.
"In all, some 1 lakh could miss out on voting in case NEET is held on May 5. We have asked HRD ministry to postpone NEET in Karnataka," medical education minister S A Ramdas said on Tuesday.
According to him, the ministry has responded, and is contemplating whether to put off NEET nationally or to hold it on some other day in Karnataka.
The minister said whether Karnataka students can take NEET will be known on April 11, when the apex court delivers the order on holding NEET or CET for medical courses.
The CBSE will conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission to MBBS and BDS Courses in the academic session 2013-14.
The responsibility of the CBSE is limited to the conduct of the entrance examination, declaration of result and providing merit list to the Counselling Authorities.
