A total of 17.7 lakh students will be appearing for board exams. About 60%-65% of the class 12 students will take board exams for the first time, since this is the first batch of students that had the alternative of skipping the class 10 board exams in 2011 fro a schools based test.

According to the sources, around 22 lakh students have registered for the class 10 & 12 board exams, which is an increase of 2 lakh compared to the last year. Among this 9.42 lakh students will take the class 12 board exams.
CBSE board has introduced value based questions which carries 3-5 marks for each question from this year for Class 12 exam. The questions will be included in 15 core subjects across all disciplines. The subjects include Mathematics, English, Biology, Hindi, Physics, Chemistry, Accountancy, Geography, History, Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Studies.
Mainly value-based questions will be interdisciplinary in nature. In a 100 mark question paper, value based questions will be allotted 5 marks for each questions, while in a 70 marks question paper will be allotted 3-4 marks for each questions.
