CIMP Director Receives Prestigious TISS Award

CIMP Director Awarded With TISS Award
Patna, Feb 18: Dr. V. Mukunda Das, Director, Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) has been conferred upon a prestigious award by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and Forum for Emotional Intelligence Learning (FEIL) India, in recognition of his significant contributions to leadership development.

The award was presented to Dr Das at a function, EQ Leadership Summit, organized at TISS campus, Mumbai recently.

The award is presented to those eminent persons whose contributions lead to inspirational leadership through the art of team work and collaboration by social awareness and relationship management.

Dr Das and Dr. Janat Shah, Director, IIM Udaipur, besides others, were awarded at the function.

Known for his academic brilliance and expertise in rural marketing, Dr Das has played a crucial role in building and nurturing CIMP, a top management institute in the country since its inception in 2008. Significantly, he has made pioneering initiatives for the upliftment of students from the deprived sections of society.

One such initiative is Students Guidance Centre (SGC) under the aegis of CIMP. SGC provides free training to students from SC/ST/OBC and minority categories for admissions in top management institutes through CAT as also for banking, SSC and railway recruitment tests.

A number of pass outs of "Students Guidance Centre (SGC)" have made it to IIMs and other prestigious B schools while some have got jobs as Probationary Officers in banks. All of them swear by the CIMP initiative.

Tarique-ur-Rahman, an alumnus of SGC and now studying at IIM Lucknow, says, "Without CIMP's support in SGC, it would not have been possible for me to have scaled such heights!"

"Congratulations Sir," cheered the young children of "A Beautiful Mind", another brainchild of Dr. Das under which local slum children are given free coaching and mentoring. They are the children of rickshaw pullers and labourers who now aspire to become doctors and engineers.

"CIMP has reserved 50 per cent of its seats for the SC/ST/OBC category students, which is not done even by the IIMs. Still, we have managed to get 100 per cent placements for the entire batch," said Dr Das. "I have a distinct vision that business administration should not be an exclusive preserve of the privileged few. Students belonging to the deprived sections deserve to be mainstreamed and we are making conscious efforts in that direction by enrolling them in our institute.

"But none of this would have been possible without the help and support extended by Chief Minister, Shri Nitish Kumar, whose contribution in developing Bihar'' educational portfolio must be acknowledged."

Ranked among top 50 management institutes in India, within four years of inception, CIMP was recently bestowed upon the prestigious Dr. J J Irani Award for excellence in management education. It is now ranked among the Top 20 institutes in the country in terms of research output in Economics and Finance by University of Connecticut.

For almost 35 years, Dr Das has been engaged in management teaching and research in national level institutions like IIM Kozhikode and Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), Gujarat. "CIMP was carved out of the vision of Sri Nitish Kumar for providing quality education to students of Bihar. CIMP will definitely become the gold-standard for B-schools in days to come," he said.
