Presently government of India is purchasing Aakash Tablet from Datawind Company by paying Rs.2,263/- per piece. The tablet are then given to the students for subsidy rate of Rs.1,130/-. He requested C-DAC to develop technology that allows providing latest technology to people for affordable prices.
Sibal also requested C-DAc to develop some technology for the safety of girls and women. He wanted that some devices such as a wrist watch that can videograph, setting up an alarm and which has GPS System should be offered for a price of Rs.1,000/- so that every person in India can be assured of their safety.
Aakash Tablet is the first Indian made tablet. The first version of Aakash that was released had outdated specifications. The latest version of Aakash2 Tablet is also surrounded by some controversies. It was rumored that its was bought from China, But Datawind company said that the Aakash 2 has been improved specifications as compared with the old one.
The Aakash 2 tablet have latest specifications are like capacitive touchscreen, four hours battery life, 512MB RAM and 1GHz processor. Even, it also contains VGS camera for Video calls. The device runs on Android Ice cream Sandwich operating system.
Analysts says that the speed of the tablet is not more than that of any entry level android smartphone having 1Ghz Allwinner Cortex A8 processor. It is easy to hold and slim but does not have viewing angle. The touch screen of tablet are needs to be operated with some pressure.
