Thimmegowda elected as new VC for BU
The Governor of Karnataka, Hansraj Bhardwaj has announced that Prof. Thimmegowda has been appointed as new Vice-chancellor for Bangalore University. The much more controversial issue of appointing new VC to BU has come to an end.

Initially, Prof. Thimmegowda was working as professor in Chemistry department at Mangalore University. Thimmegowda shall be taking up the responsibility of an VC from tomorrow I.e. Wednesday, Jan 06, 2013 on which he shall be officially declared as the Vice-chancellor of Bangalore University.

The name of Prof Thimmegowda and G.K Karanth are in front for the appointment as VC to Bangalore University. Also, Prof N Rangaswamy, acting Vice-Chancellor of BU, M C Radhakrishna, Professor of Physics, Bangalore University and Dr S B Hinchigeri from Karnatak University, Dharwad were shortlisted for the appointment.

Finally Thimmegowda has been elected by the Governor of Karnataka. Last week Higher education minister, C T Ravi had a meeting with the search committee regarding the selection of a perfect Vice Chancellor.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University S P Hiremath, Karnatak University Vice-Chancellor S K Saidapur, Director of the Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Deshpande, who were in the search committee members had shortlisted the final names for appointment.

The Government of Karnataka had appointed Prof Mylarappa as VC for BU on Nov 02, 2011. He worked as Head of the Social Studies Department at Bangalore University. He was appointed as VC at the age of 46.
