Women Candidates Of IIM Calcutta Gets Extra Points

Extra Points For Girls Of IIM Calcutta
IIMC (Indian Institute of Management Calcutta) is keen on maximum number of women candidates to join the institute. The new enrollment formula that was adopted by the institute this year aims to break the conventional male domination in the institute.

In the academic session 2013, IIM-C has granted additional points in order to assist women candidates in getting their admissions. This is considered as a positive move that has also been noticed by the other Large IIM's of Bangalore and Ahmadabad.

Not just the management but also the faculty of IIMC is hopeful to admit maximum number of 100 women candidates for the upcoming session 2013-14 which is said to twice the customary number. After the CAT (Common Admission Test) results, the chosen candidates now have to take a WAT (Written Ability Test) and face a PI(Personal Interview) before being enrolled in the Premier institute.

Based on the New enrollment formula adopted by the institute, IIM-C will grant 3 additional points in order to have more female candidates at the pre-interview phase (Those who cleared the Written Ability Test and the Personal Interview) and to make more women eligible for the interview. As a result of this change, 25% of the overall numbers of candidates appearing for the interviews are Women candidates.

However, a total number of 395 women candidates will be taking the interview this year in comparision to last year's 170, which is a huge increase in the gender ratio. The institute hopes to double the number of women who will receive admission to the institute.

Although IIM- Bangalore and Ahmadabad are yet to adopt this formula, they will be examining the Results of this new formula in IIM-C. Sources from the institute revealed that they will be continuing with the old pattern for this session. Earlier, both IIM - A and B recorded 10 percent enrolment for female students. However, these days the number has improved slightly.
