In a press statement issued that the PGIMER entrance exam most likely to be conducted in the second week of Dec 2012 as per the availability of centres for exam. With an aim to prevent the use of any unfair means, thes institute will install jammers and have a flying squad team in place as part of reforms in the invigilation system.
The institute is palling to introduce US Model type of open book examination. The proposed reforms come after the Central Bureau of Investigation unearthed 'hi-tech cheating' among candidates and arrested 15 candidates, 8 Boys and 7 girls for copying with the help of sophisticated electronic gadgets in the entrance exam for the premier institute.
The CBI officials found laptops, micro earphones, sophisticated mobile phones, bluetooth devices and special clothes from students attending the exams. All the arrested candidates belonged to Andhra Pradesh.
The CBI raid has exposed the lack of preparation of the institution to conduct the examination. While general instructions provided to each and every candidate before the filling the application form and preparation in the examination clearly mention that there will be bounce by the security personnel deployed outside centres, in reality, none of the female candidates was bounced.
This is because no member of the female security staff was deployed outside any centre. Only male candidates were bounced, that too at only some of the centres. Also demonstrating a lax approach, PGI authorities did not even depute their own security staff at the exam centres and instead relied on the centres to provide the necessary arrangements for conducting the exam.
