The first place was won by Fr,C,Rodrigues Institute of Technology-Vashi, Mumbai and the second place was won by the students of PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu.
These students named Shashank Agarwal and Dhwanil Shukla were pursuing their third year Mechanical Engineering. They came up with an innovative idea of a unique electric powered vehicle, also conceptualized two wheelers which could be conjoined to become a four-wheeled vehicle.
This competition is one of the biggest of its kind in the country which has received more than a thousand entries from students of various design institute and leading engineering colleges including many IIT's.
On referring to the contemporary transportation challenges in the country, the organizers asked the students to design a low cost personal transport considering aspects like Transformability, Foldability or Modularity. Agarwal replied, "The design will allow the vehicle to be dismantled into 2 wheelers according to their requirements, for example, for commuting through crowded lanes and more convenience in congested parking areas and so on". "We have designed the two-wheelers in such a way that they can accommodate removable fabric roofs for harsh weather conditions. The design has also taken into consideration various safety issues usually faced by the two wheelers", said Shukla.
The competition took over in several phases beginning with an online submission of design by students from North Zone, South Zone and West one. While 10 designs were selected from each zone, the IITGN team won the second prize at the regional round.
Further, in the next level, 4 teams of each zone were allowed to take part at the final national level competition which was held at IIT-Madras.
OneindiaEducation wishes all the Participants and Winners "The Very Best".
