Goa accepts National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the medical and dental aspirants have to answer NEET from march 2013 and not the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) as per the state government decision.

The GCET will be held in March 2013 for admission in to engineering and pharmacy seats in Goa, sources said.

The state government has decided that the Goa students will skip the common national entrance test fro admissions to engineering colleges to be held by the central by the central government from 2013. The sate will join the national test from 2014, sources said.

The Union Human Resource Department (HRD) ministry in introducing the centralized common entrance examination for engineering, science and medical undergraduate courses in the country. This will save the students in trouble of appearing for multiple tests held on multiple dates in different institutions and universities.

The students from the Goa, who wants to join an Indian Institution of Technology (IIT) has to appear for the GCET and entrance test held by the IIT to know if he is eligible for one or both. The new system will continues in 2013 in the state but from 2014 Goa students will be able to take the national entrance test and know if they are eligible for Goa seats and national seats at the same time.

The reason behind delaying the entrance test for one year, which will help engineering aspirants in Goa time to prepare for the new system.

The main idea behind the national test is not to tap wastage of physical and financial resources due to the multiplicity of the tests, but the new test will also help examine a student's ability to comprehend, analyze, reason and solve problems without adopting aimless rote methods.
