A speaker in LokSabha, Meira Kumar has also shown up her interest in giving priority to it. She said "Family, society and nation develop in true sense only when women are education, skilled, vocationally employed and become empowered". She had also been a MP for five times.
On ensuring the importance of it, she said "Participation of women at different levels including in the governance of local bodies has brought significant changes in the lives of women and society, but still much are required to uplift the socio-economic condition of women and exploited".
Meira who is noted to be the first speaker in the history of Indian Parliament threw a light on the status of SC/ST and exploited women and students.
On referring to the problems facing the hand-loom weavers associated with local silk industries and production of Tassar Silk at Bhagalpur that brings in huge amount of foreign currency adding to the foreign exchange reserve, the LS Speaker said that she would make all efforts to bring changes in the lives of hand-loom weavers.
