HC Approved Carry Over System For Diploma Students

Karnataka High Court on Monday paved the way for more than 8,400 diploma students across the state to enter 5th semester despite having a 10 subjects carry over from 1st to 4th semesters.

More than 8000 students were under depression as they were not eligible for admissions to next semester (3rd and 5th semester) with back logs of more than 5 subjects. Later, Students seemed to be over joyed after the court had announced its final decision.

A bench of Justice, headed by Ram Mohan Reddy inquired about the petition applied on 5th semester carry over system with 175 diploma students having more than 5 subjects which were not yet cleared, which makes them ineligible to move further.

Further, the court said that the Carry over of more than 10 subjects shall be applied for the present academic year only and not applicable for any other semester students. According to the report more than 82% of students get a chance of carry over system. The carry over system shall not be applicable from next year onwards.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy said students that "Education can be obtained is a right manner only when it is taken on deep interest and by heart. Only then it leads to the path of success. Education is not just to read, instead to Understand the core and depth of each subjects."

The Court ordered the government to make it a strict advice on the Carry over system, available only for this year and prohibited from next year onwards because students once received the carry over option shall tend to do the same every year.

"Due to the continuation of carry over system, students shall lose concentration on regular studies and might take up the carry over system in granted. They shall get addicted to this, which shall make them lenient towards final examinations." he explained.

More over, in 2009-2010 academic year the rules of Diploma students were brought up which explained that candidates to join 3rd semester shall carry over 4 subjects and students seeking admissions for 5th semester shall have a carry over of 4 subjects, which all together is 8 subjects carry over system invented.

A lawyer of higher education ensured that in the year 2010-11 according to the new syllabus students were allowed a complete carry over opportunity. But, wishing the same for every year is not worth to it. Based on it this rule shall be applied only for this year.
