Kurukshetra University, Haryana introduces a academic course on Bhagavad Gita, which would enable students to lead a stress free life through ancient indian scriptures. The one year certificate course is introduced from this academic year.

Dr. R K Deswal, Chairman, Department of Philosophy said that, "Kurukshetra University is the only university in india offering a full fledged academic courses on Bhagavad Gita".

"They need to have a regular course based on Bhagavad Gita, which is associated with the holy city of Kurukshetra, hed been felt fro long", said R K Deswal.

Jyotisar, the sacred place where Lord Krishna is believed to have delivered the message of Gita to Arjuna, is about 6 Kms from the Kurukshetra Campus. Teaching Gita is not associated with any religion and it is worldwide accepted as a significant source of wisdom showcasing how to live a meaning life. It it translated into almost all languages of the world, several eminent persons have written commentaries about the inspirational ancient indian scripture.

Dr Deswal also said, "They have sanctioned 30 seats, in which 25 students from districts as far as Sirsa and Hisar ave taken admissions for this regular course. As it is taken very well in the first year and we have planned to upgrade it as a diploma course from the next year".

"In the modern fast paced life and competition from right from the school, there is a dire need to inculcate moral values among youngsters for building national and humanist character. Our course os aimed at providing a platform where students pursuing regular courses enroll and understand spiritualism", Dr Deswal said.

Kurukshetra University is planning to waive eligibility condition of studying Sanskrit as a compulsory subject in class 10.
