The Delhi University (DU) is granting 10% relaxation on minimum eligibility criteria to other backward classes (OBC) students. This will be applicable to postgraduate and undergraduate courses from the academic session 2012-13. The university has declared that OBC students will now be granted relaxation on minimum eligibility in the qualifying criteria.
Also, OBC students appearing in any of the entrance exam will be selected for his/her preferred program even if he scores 10% less than a general category candidate. Among the 54000 seats in the university, 27% are reserved for OBC students at undergraduate level. Till 2011, 10% relaxation was given to OBC candidates on the final cut off for general category students.
However, 10% relaxation on the final cut off for general category students, made many of the OBC seats go vacant. Moreover, this will allow more number of OBC students to apply this year.
