IIT's Reservations Starts This Yr
The Admission Committee of IITJEE has decided to grant 4.5% reservation to minorities within the 27% seats reserved for the OBC's (Other Backward Classes) from this academic year.

Those candidates belonging to minority community who have submitted their oline application forms without mentoring their category can mention the same by logging onto IIT JEE official website by giving a declaration that they belong to minority channel and depositing their certificate before the date of exam, April 8, 2012.

 

The candidates are required to give their undertakings to their respective zonal offices before Tuesday, March 20, 2012. The sources from IITJEE admission committee revealed that the application forms are not carrying minority status information since this is a recent announcement. The students have been asked to submit their undertaking first and later on submit their candidates, to claim their reservation.

In case the candidates fail to submit certificates, they will not be considered for reservation in the category as an individual list will be prepared. After implementation of reservation, about 430 candidates from minority community are expected to get entry in 17 IIT's across India, against the total number of 9500 seats in 2011.

However, the final number of total seats available in all IIT's will be made available after March 25, 2012. Some IIT's may increase their intake capacity while some may introduce new courses. IIT JEE has declared formally that it will be introducing two new programmes this academic year.

The 2 programmes are as Engineering Science and Civil Engineering offering 25 seats in each. At present IIT's have received 507607 applications which is slightly higher than the previous year. However, there may be changes in the final figures as some students have applied to 2 zones while some have failed to present the required documents.

As the records say Madras has received nearly 78000 number of applications whereas Kanpur zone of Uttar Pradesh has received a maximum number of applications this year.
