Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K) has received government's approval on its revised Memorandum of association (MOA) and rules. The approved MOA will now allow IIM-K to practice functional Autonomy. Due to more functional autonomy, IIM-K will now play a major role in choosing the director and chairman for the board of governors.
The board will now select 3 names out of which ministry will have to choose any one. Presently, human resource development ministry is responsible for the entire process of appointment of director and chairman of the board of governors.
The MOA briefs about the association of different IIM's with the government and the stakeholders. A board meeting will be held at IIM-K on January 21 to consider the revised MOA. The IIM's had submitted a proposal to the government for amendments in MOA to achieve functional autonomy.
The IIM-A, IIM-B, and IIM-K were among the first IIM's to seek functional autonomy for issues such as appointment of director as well as flexible salaries.
