NEET PG Exam Postponed For 2013, UG Likely In 2012

NEET Medical Entrance Exam Details
The Medical Council of India (MCI) is planning to conduct the Common Medical Entrance Exam- NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses from the year 2012. Based on the inadequacy of resources and competence, the Government has come across a decision not to conduct NEET for Postgraduate Course. In case of Undergraduates, NEET is likely to be held in 2012.

The National Board for Examination (NBE) has predicted to strengthen its resources and infrastructure to conduct NEET for Postgraduate medical seats by 2013. However, MCI had already requested All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to conduct NEET for Postgraduate course in the month of January-February 2012 for the forthcoming academic year. But, AIIMS refused to do so because of its present infrastructure inadequacy.

Moreover, at present there are 21000 Postgraduate medical seats in India and AIIMS alone conducts entrance exam for 50% of the existing PG medical seats. The major disputes faced by MCI in conducting NEET for Undergraduate course in 2012 are syllabus and language in which the exam will be conducted. MCI also confirmed that the syllabus would be standardized for NEET to satisfy all the state board students.

Earlier, MCI had announced that NEET will be conducted only in Hindi and English. This might affect students from different states who have studied in their regional languages. Therefore, many states are in a difficulty to accept NEET. If the council conforms to its decision of conducting NEET in Hindi and English only, then the states such as Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka will have to give up the idea of accepting NEET.

On the converse, Madhya Pradesh has decided to accept NEET from 2012 renouncing off the state's premedical entrance test. Though nothing has been declared officially, MCI is expected to make changes in its announcements. Medical Aspirants can expect a Common Medical Entrance Exam by 2012 for the Undergraduate Courses.
