44 Deemed Universities Soon To Be Derecognized

44 Deemed Univs To Be Derecognized
Future of more than 2 lakh students are in danger as Central Government has agreed to the P.N.Tandon Committee's conclusion to de-recognize 44 identified deemed universities. The central government has also asked the supreme court not to interfere any more with the decision of the committee. The Government said that “these institutions have completely misused their status of being a deemed university”.

However the Central Government is ready to smater off the status “Deemed University” from these 44 Universities as these colleges were not run as per the institutions of academic excellence, but with more of family fiefdoms. In addition to this, the universities have failed to meet the academic standards and extend undergraduate and postgraduate programs with inappropriate nomenclatures with the increase in the number of intakes of students beyond the actual student intake. P.N. Tandaon Committee, which is mainly formed to investigate the conditions of deemed universities has mentioned out a number of malformations in these Deemed Universities. The committee has also stated in the affidavit that the management of these universities are run by families rather than Professional academics.

All these are the major reasons mentioned by the Central Government to accord with the P.N Tandon Committee.
