As per the rules of eligibility criteria for SC/ST candidates , they must have secured at least 40 percent of marks either in Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) or Combined Competitive Examinations. In case of Northeastern SC/ST students the Union Health Minister and the MCI had refused in order to relax the criterion anymore . Regarding this a senior officer of Tripura health department said, around 31 MBBS seats in Government-run-medical Institutes were vacant in Agartala and Tripura Quota. This was only because no student of these states secured minimum marks in JEE this year .
To overcome this issue some students and guardians has filed a complaint in the Gauhati High Court against the Rules and Regulations of MCI . As a result, the High Court had passed the order on Friday in Gauhati, which said the authorities, to admit those students for the MBBS course within a week time against their respective quota of seats . The court also added- “When this issue has not been arised specifically and nor decided, the constitutionality of the MCI's regulation remains open for the challenge of its irrationality”.
