In Maharashtra, the provisional merit list for engineering and pharmacy admissions has been declared yesterday i.e. on 5th July 2011. It has brought relief to lakhs of applicants. However, the final merit list will be displayed on 11 July 2011, after the new candidates filed their applications.
Following the Maharashtra government's approval, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) confirmed lowering of the eligibility criteria (45% marks in HSC) for engineering and pharmacy admissions. Three additional days have been allotted for newly eligible students to apply for admissions.
With the eligibility criteria lowered to 45% marks for the generally category and 40% marks in the reserved category of HSC, there will be many more students who will get an opportunity to study engineering or pharmacy. However, this should not affect the standards of the technical education, but it may hamper the first year exam results.
