Earlier, the counselling was scheduled on 27 June 2011. State higher education minister VS Acharya said, “The counselling for admission to engineering courses will begin from 7 July in Karnataka. AICTE has promised that it will release the seat matrix by 28 June 2011.”
By last week, only 140 of the 189 engineering colleges in the state had received AICTE sanctions. Other Engineering Colleges are still waiting. Last year too, the government had to postpone the CET engineering counselling twice for the same reason.
AICTE approval for Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy courses are pending. As per reports, the State Ayush director is trying to get the seat matrix for the same at the earliest. Counselling for these courses has been postponed and the dates are yet to be fixed.
With apex bodies like the Medical Council of India and AICTE holding their order back is making many states wait for the seat matrix. Even for medical courses, approval for seats in five college is yet to be done. Although 121 seats were left for Friday, the last day of the first round of general counselling for medical and dental seat selection.
