Bombay region shines with IIT-JEE stars

This year,13,602 students have passed the coveted entrance exam Indian Institute of Technologies-Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) 2011. It has been noted that there is a rise of 6.5% in the number of candidates who appeared for the prestigious examination in comparison to last last year. The number of students who appeared this year was 30,000 more than the year 2010. Now, the candidates will compete for 9,618 seats available in IITs this year.

Among various regions in India, Bombay has topped with a total of 3,336 candidates followed by Madras zone, which recorded a total of 3,126 successful candidates. Delhi region stood third with 2,138 successful candidates.Kanpur, Kharagpur and Roorkee regions achieved fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively, while IIT-Guwahati zone recorded the lowest number of successful candidates with a total of 597.

The first list of seat allotment will be uploaded on IIT-Kanpur's website on 21 June 2011. This will be followed by a second list on 6 July 2011. Counselling would be conducted online.
