CBSE top performers in TN worried for engg seats

By Kamalika Bhattacharya

The CBSE Class XII students in Tamil Nadu who have fared well and have scored 100 in mathematics also looked worried just because they have managed to score only 95 in Physics and 97 in Chemistry. According to reports, a student who has scored 486 marks believes without scoring 98 and 99 in all core science subject CBSE candidates stand a very narrow chance in getting through the well-known Tamil Nadu Engineering colleges.

With lot of students from state board exams of Tamil Nadu scoring similar marks and hundreds in many subjects, this year's engineering admission in Tamil Nadu will be tougher. The CBSE students are concerned regarding the admission to the reputed colleges under Anna University as all of them would be assessed only by their class XII results, on a par with their counterparts from State Board schools.

Unless the government increase the number of engineering seats in Tamil Nadu, the problem wont be solved. In the past also, very few CBSE students could claim seats in reputed colleges under Anna University.

Meanwhile, it has been observed that CBSE students do well when it comes to crack the national-level entrances.About 95 per cent of the students in IIT come from CBSE. Most CBSE students are aware of their strengths and chances, hence they apply to other universities or procure management seats in colleges.
