IIM-C favours corporate contributions

By Kamalika Bhattacharya

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) has raised its voice against privatization of IIMs but favors the corporate contributions to generate funds for setting up new management institutes.

According to reports, "Under any circumstances, IIM-C is not in favor of privatization of IIMs. But, IIM-c favours corporate contribution for new IIMs at least in the initial years. The higher authorities at IIM-C believes,it is possible to create a corpus outside the government. But entrepreneurs must be allowed to get full tax benefit of the total contribution.Currently, Indian tax system does not allow us to create a corpus."

The IIM-C is providing full support to the newly established IIM Ranchi, which has been set up six months ago. Most of the courses there are taught by IIM-C faculty.
