Pune: Counsellors have been appointed by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, to aid students to overcome examination stress and problems related to studies.
Secondary School Certificate (SSC, Standard X) examination has prompted the move to have counsellors. The examination will be conducted in 9 divisions of the board including Pune, Nashik, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Konkan, Latur and Amravati.
The parents can also get assistance from the counsellors between 8 am and 8 pm everyday throughout the period of examination, said Pushpalata Pawar, secretary of the Pune division.
More than 17.28 lakh students from across Maharashtra including 2.77 lakh in Pune division are taking up the exam. Out of them, more than 15.58 lakh are appearing for the new course and the rest are appearing for the old course. In order to reduce stress among students and parents the state board had declared time table on 1st June 2013.
Marathi, Hindi, Gujarathi, Tamil, Urdu among other first language papers will be conducted between 11 am and 2 pm, while the second and third language papers will be held between 3 pm and 6 pm. The exam will wrap up on 27th March, 2014.
The Science paper is for a total of 100 marks (80 marks written and 20 marks practical). A single question paper of 80 marks with 'A' and 'B' sections will be provided for Science, where the students have to answer the sections in the same answer sheet. English (third language), mathematics and general maths papers will have multiple question paper sets.
565 among the total examination centres across Pune division, Ahmednagar and Solapur districts; 35 centres have been reckoned as sensitive. Videographing of sensitive centres, bar coding of answer sheets, surprise visits to exam centres by vigilance and sitting squads, hologram stickers for establishing authenticity of answer sheets are being followed to avoid malpractices during the exams.
