Ala-ud-Din Khalji, a Delhi Sultan, built the Alai Darwaza to serve as the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque's southern entrance in about 1305.

Alauddin Khilji was an aspirational emperor who wanted to control the entire world like Alexander. He referred to himself as the second Alexander as a result. In order to achieve his objective, he annexed Gujarat, Ranthambore, Chittor, and South India.

The greatest sultan of the Khilji Dynasty, Alauddin Khilji was the first Muslim sultan to extend his dominion all the way to southernmost India.
