Like every year on September 25, we are going to observe World Pharmacists Day this year as well, celebrating the contribution of pharmacy and its practitioners in keeping the world a fit and healthy place to live in.

History of World Pharmacists Day

The First World Pharmacists Day was observed in 2009. The day was instituted by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Council during the 'World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences 2009' which was being held in the Turkish capital Istanbul.

Why the date of September 25 was chosen?

Because the FIP - a global body of pharmacists - had come into existence on this very date in 1912.

• Tuberculosis deaths were reduced by 14% between 2015 and 2019.
• The maternal mortality ratio dropped by about 38% worldwide between 2000 and 2017.
