Reasons: Why Sriharikota Is The Ideal Launch Site For ISRO?

Sriharikota is located in Andhra Pradesh on the Bay of Bengal coast. It offers a number of qualities that make it an excellent launch site for the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Sriharikota: The Ideal Launch Site For ISRO

India currently operates one spaceport in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, with two launch pads. Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota, popularly known as the "Indian Spaceport," is in charge of supplying launch facilities for the Indian Space Programme.

According to ISRO, this Center has facilities for solid propellant processing, static testing of solid motors, launch vehicle integration and launch operations, range operations including telemetry, tracking, and command network, and mission control centre, as well as two launch pads from which PSLV and GSLV rockets are launched.

Reasons: Sriharikota Is the Ideal Launch Site For ISRO

Geographical location: Close To Equator

Sriharikota is positioned close to the equator, which is favourable for launches to geostationary orbit. As it can take advantage of the Earth's rotational motion, launching a satellite near the equator helps it to achieve geostationary orbit more quickly. This means less fuel is necessary for the satellite to reach its target, lowering the launch cost.

Weather Conditions

The weather in Sriharikota is generally good for launches, with moderate winds and little cloud cover. This is significant because consistent and predictable weather conditions are required for rocket launches to assure the safety of the launch vehicle and payload.

Proximity to the sea

The proximity of Sriharikota to the Bay of Bengal enables the dumping of expended rocket stages over water. After a rocket's mission is over, its spent stages (the sections that are no longer needed) are typically disposed of by releasing them into a predetermined region of the ocean. Sriharikota's proximity to the sea makes this process simpler and more efficient.

Infrastructure

Sriharikota's infrastructure is well-developed, with a launchpad, a vehicle assembly building, and a radar tracking station. This infrastructure is critical for the proper operation of rocket launches since it supplies the facilities and equipment required for rocket preparation and launch.

These variables combine to make Sriharikota a suitable launch pad for ISRO rocket launches. It has a unique set of geographical, weather, and infrastructure characteristics that make it ideal for this purpose.
