As per the constitution of India, our country is a Union of States. The topic of formation of States comes under part 1 of the Constitution of India under article 2, 3 and 4 which is as follows:
- Article 2: It briefs about the Admission and establishment of new states.
- Article 3: Briefs about the formation of new states and alteration of areas, boundaries or names of existing states.
- Article 4: Laws made under articles 2 and 3 to provide for the amendment of the First and the Fourth Schedules and supplemental, incidents and consequential matters.

Facts On Indian State Formation
- Andhra Pradesh was formed by the State Reorganisation Act 1956.
- Arunachal Pradesh was Created as a Union Territory by the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971. Which was later Converted to a state by the State of Arunachal Pradesh Act, 1986.
- Assam was founded as Ahom Kingdom and recognised as North-East Frontier Province 1874.
- Under the Madhya Pradesh reorganisation act the State of Chhattisgarh was formed on November 1, 2000.
- Tripura got its statehood by the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971.
- Uttarakhand was formed under Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000 as Uttaranchal, which was later renamed Uttarakhand in 2007.
- The State of Telangana was formed under the act of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
- While Chandigarh and Haryana formed on November 1 under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966.
