Mission Schools Of Excellence Details

Under the Mission Schools Of Excellence programme, in the next 4-5 years 50,000 classrooms will be built, 20,000 computer labs, 1.5 lakh smart classrooms and 5,000 Atal Tinkering Labs will be set up.

Mission Schools Of Excellence Budget

  • Mission Schools Of Excellence has been conceived with a total budget of 10,000 Crores. With the launch of the programme, projects worth Rs 5,567 crore will be declared as rolled out under various stages of implementation.
  • Currently, works worth Rs 1,650 crore are under tender processes in more than 7,000 schools towards construction of 8,000 classrooms and over 20,000 other facilities. Further, projects worth more than Rs 2,881 crore will be taken up soon for constructing 13,500 classrooms in more than 4,000 schools and for building hostels, District Institute for Education and Training (DIET) buildings, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) complexes.

Mission Schools Of Excellence: Highlights

  • PM Modi launches Mission Schools of Excellence at Trimandir, Adalaj, Gujrat. The Mission has been conceived with a total budget of 10,000 Crores.
  • During the event at Trimandir, PM launched projects worth around Rs 4260 crore.
  • The Mission will help strengthen education infrastructure in Gujarat through setting up of new classrooms, computer labs, smart class rooms and overall upgradation of infrastructure of schools in the State.
  • Gujarat state is addressing the issue of shortage of teachers and classrooms through this innovative and positive approach with public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
  • The mission aims to strengthen government schools with more than 120 students and develop them into Schools of Excellence.
  • The number of students in these schools is estimated to increase from 59 lakh to 63 lakh due to the programme.
  • Under the mission, 20,000 government schools (about 50 per cent of the total 40,000 government schools), including 15,000 primary schools and 5,000 grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools, have been selected for holistic development.
  • The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the World Bank (WB) will provide a loan of Rs 7,500 crore for the government of Gujarat's Mission School of Excellence project.

World Bank Delegation

A World Bank delegation was led by Jaime Saavedra (Global Education Director) visited Gujrat to gather information and study the School of Excellence project.

Command & Control Centre

  • The command and control centre is an interactive platform that is being used by the state's education department to monitor the quality of education and the attendance of the teachers and students.
  • Through Command & Control centre e-learning projects are also being provided to the schools.
