Chronology of Ayodhya Ram Temple Issue

For centuries, the holy city of Ayodhya in India has been at the center of a complex and emotionally charged dispute: the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue. This ongoing conflict hinges on the ownership of a contested site believed by Hindus to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, a revered deity in their faith, and where the Babri Masjid, a 16th-century mosque, once stood.

The roots of the Ayodhya dispute stretch back centuries, with claims and counter-claims regarding the site emerging as early as the 1850s. However, the issue gained national prominence in the 1980s with the rise of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its mobilization of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. This movement, fueled by religious fervor and political calculations, sought to construct a Ram temple on the disputed site.
