What is Radiography?

Radiography is a science-based healthcare profession, where practitioners use diagnostic imaging technologies to detect or diagnose diseases. Radiographers play a paramount role in implementing these technologies and providing a thorough analysis. This often involves administering radiation-based treatment, interpreting patient X-rays and scans, providing critical input for treatment plans, and assuring patient safety.

World Radiography Day History

The discovery of X-Ray took place in 1895 when Wilhelm Roentgen accidentally found a new type of Electromagnetic wave in his laboratory. This wave was transparent through flesh but could not pass through metals and bones. It was a significant invention in the medical field. Roentgen named this wave X-ray. The discovery occurred while he was working with a Cathode Ray tube and noticed a fluorescent glow of crystals near his table. By applying high voltage and vacuuming the air in the tube while shielding it with black paper, he observed a green fluorescent light in nearby materials. This led him to conclude that the tube emitted a new type of phosphorescent material light capable of passing through paper and casting shadows on solid objects. He named this discovery X-Ray, as it could pass through flesh and produce shadows of solid objects like bones. The discovery of X-Rays on November 8th led to the celebration of World Radiography Day every year.
