Subramaniya Bharathi was born in Ettayapuram, Tamilnadu on 11 December 1882. He started writing poetry at a very young age and won laurels along with the title Bharathiyar at age eleven. His poetries are gems for literature.

He made the world realise that education wasn't confined to literature but an all round development and worked towards social reforms such as abolishment of caste system, child marriage and dowry. His efforts have converted India into a secular country.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, born on 5 September 1888 was the second President of India. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Arts from Madras University. In partial fulfillment for his M.A. degree, Radhakrishnan wrote a thesis on the ethics of the Vedanta titled "The Ethics of the Vedanta and Its Metaphysical Presuppositions", which was a reply to the charge that the Vedanta system had no room for ethics.

He proved that Indian philosophies are on par with other education systems and earned respect for it across the world. His birthday is now celebrated as teacher's day!
