RRB NTPC Recruitment: Explore Syllabus And Exam Pattern Prior To Preparation

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) under the Ministry of Railways has opened the doors for another mega recruitment drive. The Railways had initiated the recruitment of around 1.5 lakh vacancies 14 months ago. Earlier, the Board has announced that approximately 2.30 lakh vacancies to be filled in the coming two years, which will be held in two phases. The first stage of RRB recruitment will be held for 1,31,328 in February/March 2019. The second phase for approximately 99,000 vacancies will be held in 2020.

RRB NTPC Syllabus And Exam Pattern

RRB NTPC Notification 2019

The RRB has released a recruitment notification for Non Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) Graduate & Undergraduate Posts. The notification was released on February 28, 2019. The notification was released for a total of 35,277 vacancies that include both under graduate and graduate posts. Aspirants are advised to check the details of vacancies for NTPC Graduate and Under Graduate below.

  • Junior Clerk-cum-Typist: 4319
  • Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist: 760
  • Junior Time Keeper: 17

  • Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk: 4940

NTPC Graduate 24649 Vacancies

  • Traffic Assistant: 88
  • Goods Guard: 5748
  • Senior Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk: 5638

The competition for the RRB NTPC recruitment examination will be massive. Hence, aspirants are advised to explore the RRB NTPC syllabus and exam pattern before kick-starting the preparation.

RRB NTPC Selection Process

Candidates whose online application was successful are only eligible for the selection process. The recruitment process consists of two computer-based test (CBT), typing skill test/computer based aptitude test (as applicable) and document verification/medical examination.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern - First Stage (1st) CBT

The duration of the exam is 90 minutes. 1/3 mark shall be deducted for each wrong answer. Candidates who qualify in the CBT first stage are only eligible for the CBT second stage.

RRB NTPC Syllabus

The syllabus for the first stage and second stage of CBT is similar. The difficulty and mode of questioning will change in the second stage of CBT exam. The RRB NTPC official notification has published the syllabus for the examination. Check the RRB NTPC syllabus below published in the official notification.

(1) Mathematics: Number system, elementary algebra, decimals, fractions, LCM, HCF, profit and loss, ratio and proportions, percentage, mensuration, time and work, geometry and trigonometry, time and distance, simple and compound interest, elementary statistics etc.

(2) General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, mathematical operations, completion of number and alphabetical series, relationships, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, coding and decoding, puzzle, statement- conclusion, statement-courses of action, data sufficiency, maps, decision making, interpretation of graphs etc.

(3) General Awareness: Current events of national and international importance, flagship government programs, art and culture of India, Indian literature, monuments and places of India, Constitution and political system, games and sports, general science and life science (up to 10th CBSE), UN and other important world organizations, basics of computers and computer applications, physical, social and economic geography of India and world, history of India and freedom struggle, Indian polity and governance, general scientific and technological developments including space and nuclear program of India, environmental issues concerning India and world at large, common abbreviations, transport systems in India, Indian economy, famous personalities of India and world, flora and fauna of India, important government and public sector organizations of India etc.

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

This is conducted only for candidates who have opted for the post - Traffic Assistant and Station Master. Aspirants have to secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify.

Typing Skill Test (TST)

This TST is conducted for the posts of Senior Clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Junior Clerk-cum-Typist, Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist and Junior Time
Keeper. Aspirants should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on the personal computer only.

Document Verification

The final merit will be based on the performance of candidates in 2nd Stage CBT and based on the performance of candidates in both 2nd Stage CBT and CBAT/TST (as applicable). Candidates will be shortlisted for the document verification as per merit. Without document verification, the recruitment process will not be completed.
