Prem Singh Tamang completed his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in 1988 from Darjeeling Government College. The degree was completed under University of North Bengal (now commonly referred to as the University of North Bengal), which affiliates several colleges across the Darjeeling region. Official government profiles list his education as Graduation from North Bengal University.

Early Academic Life and Teaching Career

Born on 5 February 1968 in Singling, Soreng district of present-day Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang pursued higher education at a time when access to advanced education for many students from hill regions was comparatively limited. After earning his B.A., Tamang entered government service as a teacher. According to official records, in 1990 he was appointed as a graduate teacher in the Government of Sikkim and continued in that role until 1993. From Classroom to Political Leadership

Prem Singh Tamang later resigned from government service to enter active politics. He contested elections and gradually emerged as a significant political figure in Sikkim. Over the years, he served as MLA, cabinet minister and eventually founded the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha.

He became the 6th Chief Minister of Sikkim in 2019 and returned for a second consecutive term after the 2024 Assembly elections.
