Mulayam Singh Yadav was born in Saifai of Etawah in Uttar Pradesh on 22nd November 1939. He was inspired and influenced by the socialist thoughts and ideology of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia; later joined politics after coming into close contact with Ram Sewak Yadav, Sarvashri Madhu Limaye, Karpoori Thakur, Raj Narayan and Janeshwar Mishra.
He won his first assembly election in 1967 and won a total of eight times there onwards. The founder of the Samajwadi Party and three-time Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, made his name in UP politics during intense social and political ferment after the 1970s.
