Nepal Floods Crisis: 288 Indians Uncontactable as Massive IAF Rescue Operation Begins
As of August 28 morning (IST), the Ministry of External Affairs said 288 Indian nationals remain uncontactable after Nepal’s flash floods. Families of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims, project workers, and students on internships have sought updates. Officials cautioned that communication outages persist across corridors hit by landslides and bridge failures.
India’s relief airlift is underway. An Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J delivered about 10 tonnes of supplies to Kathmandu. A C-17 from Hindon has flown 37.5 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief material, including medicines and food packets, with more sorties planned.

MEA confirmed 288 Indians uncontactable, adding 21 from Tamil Nadu were rescued and around 200 sought help on the Chinese side. Gandak alert in Bihar and UP districts
Bihar has placed districts along the Gandak and allied basins on alert, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, Muzaffarpur and Vaishali. Uttar Pradesh has sounded high alert in Maharajganj and Kushinagar, with embankments patrolled. Earlier, Valmikinagar barrage gates were opened to manage flows. Travel near the Rasuwagadhi–Gyirong corridor remains risky. Nepal’s roads agency reported a 42‑kilometre link to the border washed away and the Miteri Bridge destroyed, disrupting pilgrim and tourist traffic. Avoid non-essential movement toward the frontier until authorities restore safe passages and issue fresh clearances.
