The Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, established to promote the ideology of the great 15th century Vaishnav saint and philosopher, Srimanta Sankardeva, is making commendable efforts to broaden and enrich his life and philosophy. The Assam Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, lauded the university for its yeoman service in spreading the teachings of Srimanta Sankardeva and facilitating social enrichment.

Speaking at the fifth convocation of the university, Kataria acknowledged the role of the university in promoting the life and philosophy of the great saint. He urged the students to be worthy of their degrees and become ambassadors to spread the teachings of Srimanta Sankardeva far and wide. Kataria also appealed to the university authorities to empower its students to manage the rich resources of the state in a careful and planned manner.

The convocation saw the governor presenting degrees to 23 PhD and 10 MPhil scholars while 452 students were conferred postgraduate and undergraduate diplomas. The Union Minister of State for Education, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, also acknowledged the university's contribution to the North East by introducing postgraduate programmes in Yogic Science and Naturopathy among other path-breaking programmes. Singh emphasized the need for synergizing the knowledge and skills of the students by introducing add-on courses on Sankardeva in consonance with the NEP curriculum.

Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya has been instrumental in promoting the life and philosophy of Srimanta Sankardeva and facilitating social enrichment. With its path-breaking programmes and innovative approach, the university is carving a distinct place in the North East and contributing to the development of the region.
