According to his official parliamentary profile, Kiren Rijiju holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. After completing his undergraduate studies, he pursued Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, one of India's oldest and most prestigious law schools.

Early Life

Kiren Rijiju was born on November 19, 1971, in Nakhu village in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. He is the son of Shri Rinchin Kharu and Chirai Rijiju. Raised in Arunachal Pradesh, he later moved to Delhi for higher education, where he completed both his undergraduate and law degrees before entering public life.

Political Career

A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kiren Rijiju was first elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 from Arunachal West. He was subsequently re-elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014, 17th Lok Sabha in 2019, and 18th Lok Sabha in 2024, making him one of the most prominent political leaders from the Northeast.

Over the years, he has served in several important ministerial positions, including:

  • Union Minister of State for Home Affairs (2014-2019)
  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, along with Minister of State for Minority Affairs (2019-2021)
  • Union Cabinet Minister for Law and Justice (2021-2023)
  • Union Minister of Earth Sciences (from May 2023)
  • Union Minister of Food Processing Industries (from March 2024)
  • Following the formation of the new government in June 2024, he was appointed Union Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Minority Affairs, portfolios he currently holds.

Apart from his ministerial responsibilities, Rijiju has also served on several parliamentary committees, including the Standing Committee on Energy and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Development of the North Eastern Region.
